Jim Reed

Teacher • Coach • Administrator • Superintendent

In his 37-year career at Weiser Public Schools, Jim Reed served as teacher, coach, Vice Principal, Principal, Superintendent, and perhaps most important of all, mentor to an entire generation of educators and leaders. After graduating from the University of Idaho in 1975, Reed began his career at Weiser High teaching English and coaching cross country and wrestling.

  • 1975 – 1980Teacher & Athletic Coach, Weiser High School
  • 1978-79Coached state champion Girls Cross Country team; Boys team took 2nd that year
  • 1979-80Coached Weiser High School Wrestling team to a State Championship
  • 1980 – 1983Assistant Principal, Weiser High School
  • 1983 – 1986Principal, Weiser Middle School
  • 1986 – 1992Principal, Weiser High School
  • 1992 – 2012Superintendent of Schools, Weiser School District

During his 20 years as Superintendent, five principals he mentored went on to become school district superintendents themselves – a testament to the depth of his impact on those around him. Through it all, Reed exuded benevolence, compassion and goodwill, making him one of the most respected and best loved of all Weiser educators.

Jim is married to Mary Shannon Brady Reed. They are the proud parents of four children and 12 grandchildren. After relocating to Boise in 2024 to be near family, Jim continues to serve his community as a Eucharistic Minister to shut-ins and nursing home residents at Sacred Heart Parish.
